Le Boudoir d'Madame Erzulie
screenprint, 3.5 x 5.5"
February 2006

Le Boudoir d’Madame Erzulie” was created for a Valentine’s-themed print exchange organized by Bikini International. Madame Erzulie is the Haitian loa—a voudou deity—in control of love and lust. The designs on the wall are one of her veve—the pattern drawn on the ground with flour during ceremonies to call her forth. If the blanket looks like a tongue, the bed like a mouth or labia, it’s because I was creating an image of her boudoir and wanted to give back to the traditional heart symbol a bit of it’s lusty earthiness.
